Designers don’t lose money on the design hours — they lose it on the revision rounds they gave away, the licensing they forgot to charge, and the quote they invented in the reply email. This calculator prices a design job properly: your hours × your rate, plus a revision allowance you charge for, plus licensing/usage and asset costs — and it gives you three prices, not one. The sample logo job (14.5 billable hours) prices at a $1,132.50 floor, a $1,422.50 target and a $1,785.00 stretch. Quote $1,350 and it tells you the truth: that’s $80.00/hr effective, between floor and target, $72.50 given away. Then the Quote Log checks what your finished jobs REALLY paid: 6 won quotes, $7,450 of work, a blended $79.68/hr against an $85 target.
What it does for you:
– Three prices for every job: floor (never quote below), target (your rate, fully loaded) and stretch (for the client who can pay it) — walk into every negotiation knowing all three numbers.
– Revisions are priced, not donated: the revision allowance is a billable-hours line in the quote itself, and the calculator shows the cost of one extra revision hour at your target rate ($85).
– Licensing is a line item, not an afterthought: usage/licensing fees and stock/font costs are added on top of your time, so they stop coming out of your hourly rate.
– Every quote gets a verdict: enter what you actually quoted and it computes your effective rate at that price and flags whether you are at target, between floor and target, or below floor.
– The Quote Log keeps you honest over time: quoted price vs hours actually worked across 10 jobs — realized rate per job, won value, blended realized rate, best and worst.
