Costco Bulk-Buy Savings Tracker

Original price was: $18.95.Current price is: $12.95.

Every warehouse shopper knows the shelf-tag feeling: the big pack is cheaper per unit, so it must be a deal. Sometimes it is. Sometimes half of it spoils in the fridge and the ‘saving’ was fiction. This tracker answers the question item by item — bulk pack vs regular store, per unit both ways — and then does the step no price book does: it asks how much of the pack you will honestly use, and lets that answer flip the verdict.

The sample basket makes the point twice. Fresh strawberries: the bulk pack ‘saves’ $3.97 against the regular store before waste — and at a realistic 60% used, it LOSES $1.61, and the verdict column prints NOT WORTH IT in red. The avocado bag does the same ($2.95 on the tag, -$3.02 after waste). Ten of the twelve sample items survive their waste % and stay WORTH IT; the basket total drops from $84.85 of shelf-tag savings to the honest number, $63.68 — and that honest number is the one the membership maths uses.

Then the card itself goes on trial. Log each trip’s waste-adjusted saving and the sheet spreads the annual membership fee across your trips: the sample logs $423.92 over 8 trips (average $52.99 a trip), the EXAMPLE $65.00 fee works out to $8.13 a trip, the savings covered the fee by trip 2, and the net after membership is $358.92 — PAID FOR ITSELF, printed with the margin. If your trips do not cover your fee, this sheet will tell you that instead, in the same words.

Every price in the sample — bulk, regular-store, the fee itself — is an EXAMPLE entry typed in by the sample shopper from their own receipts. Nothing here claims to be any store’s current price, and there are no store logos anywhere in the file. Type your own prices over the yellow cells and every verdict recomputes.

What it does for you:
– Compares bulk pack vs regular store per unit, per pack, both ways, for every item you enter
– Applies YOUR realistic use-% before anything spoils — the waste-adjusted saving is the number that counts
– Prints a WORTH IT / NOT WORTH IT verdict per item, and lets honest waste flip it
– Amortises the annual membership fee across your logged trips, fee-per-trip included
– Prints the membership break-even: the trip where savings covered the fee, and the net after the fee
– Plus expense log, zero-based monthly budget, dashboard and monthly summary

What’s inside (.xlsx, works in Excel AND Google Sheets):
– Start Here — setup steps and your membership fee (an EXAMPLE setting — yours replaces it)
– Bulk-Buy Comparison — 12 sample items pre-filled, two of them flipping to NOT WORTH IT after waste
– Trips & Membership — 8 sample trips, the fee spread across them, the break-even printed
– Expense Log, Monthly Budget, Dashboard, Monthly Summary

Instant download. Type only in the yellow cells — formula cells are locked (password: sheetdaily, disclosed on the Start Here tab so you can unlock if you ever need to). Sample rows are pre-filled so you can see exactly how it works; clear the yellow cells and type your own. Every price is your own entry — this sheet tracks and compares, it does not quote store prices.
